EVALUATING OUR RESULTS
We need to know if we are achieving what we set out to do (our objectives) and what impact our work is having on the health and sustainability of our marine environment and fisheries. We use performance indicators and measures to look at how we are doing.
MFish is currently setting up improved systems to monitor and report against specific outcomes the Government expects us to achieve.
For example, one of these outcomes is Health of aquatic environment protected and possible performance indicators could include:
-
percentage of Quota Management System (QMS) stocks that are at or above target level
-
percentage of non-QMS species at or above target level
-
percentage of each habitat type for which biodiversity is maintained
-
percentage of habitat of particular significance to fisheries management that is protected
-
changes in fishing effort
-
catch restrained within Total Allowable Catch and Total Allowable Commercial Catch allowances.
We publish the results we've achieved each year in our annual report.
