Ministry Obligations

Customary Obligations:

The Ministry has a range of obligations to iwi and with various Deeds of Settlement. The Ministry will identify those obligations in the tender documents and will apply appropriate weight to those obligations when evaluating tenders. Therefore any tender opportunity issued by the Ministry which identifies obligations to iwi must include as part of the tenderer’s methodology how those obligations will be honoured.

Note obligations to iwi do not solely relate to customary research, but can be included in species specific research where there is a link between the species and customary practice

Sustainable Work Practice:

The Ministry is currently developing principles in relation to sustainable work practice. One of the elements being considered is the sustainable work practices employed by the Ministry’s contractors. Future tender evaluation practice may include a weighting for contractor with less environmental impact.
