PERSON SPECIFICATIONS

Members of regional recreational fishing forums will need to have the capacity to contribute to the role and function of the Forums and should have a commitment to achieving the sustainable utilisation of New Zealand’s fisheries. The following skills and capabilities will be important:

Skills / competencies

  • Experience in recreational fishing
  • Understanding of the recreational fishing sector
  • Understanding of the issues which affect people who participate in recreational fishing
  • Ability to work constructively with the Ministry of Fisheries
  • Ability to disseminate information throughout your fishing community
  • Ability to obtain information and views of the fishing community you represent
  • An appreciation of issues associated with the marine environment more generally, such as ecosystem approaches to the management of natural resources, public policy, the Treaty of Waitangi, compliance and enforcement.

Requirements

  • Availability to attend up to four meetings per year (the timing and the location of meetings may vary)
  • Ability to canvas and represent the views of the recreational fishing sector

It is desirable that members can demonstrate that they are representative of a recreational fishing organisation, one type of recreational fishing or of recreational fishing in a particular location.
