Regional Recreational Forums – MFish Role
MFish sees its role as doing the things that will accomplish the forum objectives. For example:
1. To build good relationships, MFish’s role is to:
(a) Work with forum members to create a meeting environment that encourages and allows everyone to participate
(b) Ensure all discussions are properly recorded
(c) Ensure requests are dealt with in a consistent and timely way.
2. To ensure effective consultation, MFish’s role is to:
(a) Keep forum members informed about what fisheries issues are being looked at
(b) Make sure forum members have access to information on issues relevant to their region
(c) Ensure consultation timeframes are adequate and allow forum members to talk with their organisations.
3. To ensure recreational fishers are able to participate, MFish’s role is to:
(a) Inform forum members about MFish and Government decision-making processes, and fisheries management tools
(b) Build “participation skills” in forum members, such as submission writing and information collection skills
(c) Provide forum members with tools and resources to take away and use in their organisations.
4. To help to identify local issues, MFish’s role is to:
(a) Create opportunities at each meeting for members to talk about local issues
(b) Ensure local issues identified by forum members are responded to consistently and in a timely way.
