The National Meeting of Regional Recreational Fishing Forums

The inaugural National Meeting of Regional Recreational Fishing Forums took place in 2007 in Wellington. In 2008 the second national meeting was held in Auckland.

The National Meeting brings together representatives from each of the seven regional fishing forums from across the north and south islands.

The intent of the National Recreational Meeting is to improve the recreational sector’s participation in fisheries management issues. It does this by:

  • providing for inter-forum interaction and networking, thereby increasing information sharing and capacity building in recreational sector;
  • providing a forum to discuss/workshop issues raised by members in regional forums that are relevant nationally;
  • providing a forum to discuss/workshop issues relevant to recreational fishers nationally;
  • enhancing MFish’s understanding of recreational fisheries management issues;
  • enhancing effectiveness of forums; and
  • facilitating consistency among forums.
