Crabs

Rules to be aware of when fishing for crabs:

• Crabs form part of the ‘all others’ shellfish restrictions
• There is a daily bag limit of 50 per person
• A crab pot is ‘capable’ of catching rock lobster (crayfish), so crab pots must have escape gaps that meet requirements for rock lobster pot
• There is no size limit
• There are no closed seasons
• There may be some closed areas (reserves etc) so check with your local MFish Office
• Rings pots and bobs may be used to catch crabs (both methods are exempt from rock lobster pot restrictions)
