Flea Bay (Pohatu) marine reserve: This is a total no take area.

Kaikoura Rāhui Area: Temporary S186B Closure This rāhui is a temporary closure for all fishing and gathering of aquatic life in the area marked by information signs and floating buoys. Please contact Ministry for Primary Industries for more detailed information on this closure. Ph (03) 319 6570.

Rapaki Mātaitai Reserve: Rapaki Mātaitai reserve is situated in Rapaki Bay and is defined by floating marker buoys. There are fishing and sea food gathering restrictions in the marked areas, please contact the Rapaki Marae or the Ministry for Primary Industries for more details Ph (03) 339 3662.

Port Levy Mātaitai Reserve Cockles can only be taken from within the reserve on any Saturday or Sunday during the month of September. Only 12 cockles can be taken by each person gathering and you must be in possession of a gathering PERMIT from the local Kaitiaki (Meri Crofts), 156 PA road, Port Levy. Ph (03) 329 4257.

Akaroa Taiapure There are reduced bag limits for many fish species and areas prohibited for shellfish gathering in Akaroa Harbour. A separate brochure is available that describes these regulations.
