Stock Assessment Process (MOF2004/01)

This service covers the contracted costs of participation by science providers in the fishery assessment process, which have not been included in the costs of individual research projects. It includes the preparation of Working Group reports and other fishery assessment documents, the presentation of these reports at and participation in Working Group meetings and Plenary sessions, and the provision of subsequent policy advice to the Ministry of Fisheries and government for species and topics not covered by a research contract. This service does not include the cost of convening the Fishery Assessment Working Groups; this cost is now included in the Science Group budget.

Scientific Support for International Obligations related to fishing (MOF2004/02)

This service covers the contracted costs for the provision of scientific support for international obligations related to fishing. These obligations include:

  • United Nations Conventions
  • FAO Conferences
  • Bilateral Agreements
  • Convention of the Conservation of Southern Bluefin Tuna (CCSBT)
  • US Pacific States Tuna Treaty
  • South Pacific Commission

Technical Input into Policy Advice (MOF2004/03)

This service covers the contracted costs for the provision of technical input into policy advice on sustainability, environmental, and allocation issues. These include:

  • Sustainable yields
  • Stock status
  • TAC's and other management measures
  • Special Permits
  • Marine farm permits
  • Conversion factors
  • Deemed values
  • Bycatch trades
  • Marine reserve applications
  • Population Management Plans
  • Marine Mammal Sanctuaries

  • Environmental issues
  • Expert testimony for non-compliance cases
  • Spatial environmental planning and impacts management

Socio-economic Research (MOF2004/04)

This service covers the contracted costs for the provision of information and advice on cultural, economic, and social factors that may need to be considered in the management decision making process to enable people to provide for their cultural, economic, and social well-being.

Estimation of Customary Maori harvest (MOF2004/05)

This service covers the contracted costs for the provision of advice on the nature and extent of customary Maori harvest to the Ministry of Fisheries.

Cost Recovery Information:

Costs will be apportioned using the Fisheries (Cost Recovery) Rules 2001 to the following Fishstocks:

  • MOF2004/01 – 100% Crown
  • MOF2004/02 – 100% Crown
  • MOF2004/03 – 100% Crown
  • MOF2004/04 – 100% Crown
  • MOF2004/05 – 100% Crown
This project is estimated to cost between $1 million – $1.5 million.
