This paper is the Ministry of Fisheries’ (MFish) initial position on a proposed management regime to manage the interactions between the New Zealand (or Hooker’s) sea lion and the southern squid trawl fishery (SQU 6T) during the 2005-06 fishing year. This regime will be implemented under a 2005-06 Operational Plan approved by the Minister of Fisheries.

Each year the Ministry of Fisheries (MFish) undertakes a process to develop and implement an Operational Plan to manage interactions between the New Zealand (Hooker's) sea lion and the southern squid trawl fishery (SQU 6T).
