On 3 March 2005, the Minister of Fisheries granted concurrence to the Minister of Conservation's decision to establish a marine reserve at Glenduan-Ataata Point (north Nelson), following a hui on 27 January 2005 with Te Tau Ihu representatives and consideration of the 30 September 2004 advice paper. On 15 October 2004, the Ministry provided DoC with a draft concurrence advice paper on an application to establish a marine reserve between Katikatiaka Pa and Pariokariwa Point (north Taranaki). DoC and Ministry officials met on 2 November 2004 to discuss the paper. DoC and the Ministry met with Ngati Tama on 5 and 26 April 2005. Ngati Tama provided the Ministry with its formal position on the application. The Ministry is finalising its advice. The Minister of Conservation's request for concurrence on the Whangarei Harbour marine reserve application was received on 14 December 2004. The Ministry reported to the Minister of Fisheries at the end of June 2005. The Minister of Conservation's request for concurrence on the Volkner Rocks marine reserve application was received 3 February 2005. On 1 June 2005, the Minister of Conservation notified the Minister of Fisheries that the proposed boundary had been amended, after having considered information that was not available at the time concurrence was requested. On 26 April 2005, the Minister of Conservation requested that the concurrence process for the Wellington South Coast marine reserve application be reactivated after it had been suspended at the request of DoC due to Ngati Toa having lodged an application for judicial review to the High Court. The Minister has agreed that Ministry work on this application will follow the completion of other pre-existing marine reserve applications. |
