Industrial action by fisheries officers averted

24 December 2007

Discussions today between the Ministry of Fisheries and the joint PSA and NUPE unions averted industrial action by fisheries officers over the Christmas holidays.

“I am pleased that we have reached agreement on a way to re-start bargaining,” Ministry of Fisheries Acting Chief Executive, Stan Crothers, said today.

“Although there are still a number of claims to be resolved when we re-commence bargaining in the New Year, the constructive discussions we had today provided a framework for addressing those issues,” he said.

The full rostered complement of fisheries officers will be on duty over the Christmas New Year period and members of the public who see any illegal fishing should call 0800 4POACHER.
