Chief Executive comment on SSC inquiry

11 November 2002

The Ministry of Fisheries welcomes the appointment of Ms Helen Cull QC and Deputy Commissioner Mr David Smyth to the State Services Commission inquiry into the management of the scampi fishery and will provide them with every assistance, Chief Executive Warwick Tuck said today.

"It is clear that the SSC inquiry is intended to complement the Parliamentary Select Committee inquiry running concurrently and will help ensure that all relevant matters are considered.

"I am confident that this process will allow all the complex issues to be aired and that the end result will be a restoration of public confidence in New Zealand's fisheries management regime, the Ministry of Fisheries and our staff.

"I will be making no further public comment on the SSC inquiry until after it is completed" Mr Tuck concluded.
