HAMILTON GETS A MINISTRY OF FISHERIES OFFICE
22 September 2000
The Ministry of Fisheries is coming to Hamilton city, with a new office at 26 Devon Street, Frankton.
The new office will be staffed by two Fisheries Surveillance Officers, Barney Anderson and Ini Kerapa.
Both are local people and are enthusiastic about their new role, which has a particular focus on working with the community, explaining fisheries policy to customary, recreational and commercial fishers.
"Fisheries is doing an excellent job in sustaining marine fish in a healthy environment, so we welcome this opportunity to work with the people of the Waikato and explain fisheries management to them," said Barney.
Members of the local community will attend the official opening of the new office on Friday 29 September, when it will be blessed by the Komatua of Tainui.
