In-season review of Southern Bluefin Tuna (STN 1)

The Ministry of Fisheries recently consulted on a proposal to increase the Total Allowable Catch for southern bluefin tuna within the current fishing season. The proposed change is to implement recent decisions of the Commission for the Conservation of Southern Bluefin Tuna.

The initial position paper also contains a proposal to remove the provision that provides for the carry forward of unfished Annual Catch Entitlements from one year to the next for southern bluefin tuna. Submissions have now closed, and the Ministry is preparing final advice on this topic for the Minister of Fisheries.
