CURRENT PROPOSALS

Aquaculture – Consultation on the report of the Technical Advisory Group (TAG)
The Minister of Fisheries released the TAG report for consultation in November 2009 seeking submissions on the recommendations. Over 200 submissions were received, and the key themes were summarised. The submissions are being considered as part of policy development. Cabinet approval of the proposed policy for aquaculture reform will be sought in March.


Review of Sustainablity Measures for Southern Blue Whiting 6I (SBW6I) - 1 April 2010
The Ministry of Fisheries (MFish) is consulting on the proposed sustainability measures for Southern Blue Whiting 6I (SBW 6I) for 1 April 2010. This Initial Position Paper (IPP) provides you with MFish’s initial position on the sustainability measures for this stock (SBW 6I). All submissions must be received by Friday 26th February 2010


Re-Notification of an application for a mataitai reserve at Marokopa, on the north island's west coast
Pursuant to Regulation 18 of the Fisheries (Kaimoana Customary Fishing) Regulations 1998, in February 2006 the Marokopa Marae Committee, being representatives of the tangata whenua who hold manawhenua moana over the area, applied to the Minister of Fisheries for a mataitai reserve at Marokopa between Tirua Point and Harihari Beach on the west coast of the North Island. All submissions must be received by MFish by 5pm Wednesday, 24 February 2010.


Application for three mataitai reserves at Mahia Peninsula (Horokaka, Te Toka Tamure and Te Hoe)

Pursuant to Regulation 18 of the Fisheries (Kaimoana Customary Fishing) Regulations 1998, the Mahia Maori Committee on behalf of Tangata Kaitiaki/Tiaki, marae, hapu of Rongomaiwahine iwi, being the tangata whenua who hold manawhenua moana over the area, applied to the Minister of Fisheries for three separate mataitai reserves around the Mahia Peninsula. All submissions must be received by MFish by 5pm Wednesday, 17 February 2010.


In-season review of Southern Bluefin Tuna (STN 1)

The Ministry of Fisheries is consulting on a proposal to increase the Total Allowable Catch for southern bluefin tuna within the current fishing season. The proposed change is to implement recent decisions of the Commission for the Conservation of Southern Bluefin Tuna. This initial position paper also contains a proposal to remove the provision that provides for the carry forward of unfished Annual Catch Entitlements from one year to the next for southern bluefin tuna. Submissions are due by Friday 12 February 2010.


Review of Sustainability Measures for Surf Clams Stocks in QMA 2 and QMA 3 for 1 April 2010

This Initial Position Paper provides the Ministry of Fisheries’ (MFish) initial position on the proposed changes to the sustainability measures for selected surf clam stocks in QMA 2 and QMA 3 for the fishing year beginning 1 April 2010. All written submissions must be received by MFish by 5 pm Monday, 22 February 2010.


Replacement for 2006 seabird scaring devices circular

The Ministry of Fisheries is consulting on a proposal to replace the 2006 seabird scaring devices circular with a replacement circular issued under new legislation. Both the 2006 and the proposed replacement circulars relate to trawl vessels greater than 28 metres in overall length. All submissions must be received by Monday 15 February 2010.


Maori Aquaculture Settlement - Extension of Consultation Period for Minister’s Plan
The Minister of Fisheries has extended the consultation period for the plan on the Maori Commercial Aquaculture Settlement and is seeking your input. The Minister of Fisheries has extend the consultation period for the Plan indefinitely until the Minister provides a 60 days notice that consultation will close.
