The Ministry of Fisheries wishes to notify you of the availability of an independent report by Aranovus Ltd, entitled “A Socio-economic Impact Assessment of Fishers: Proposed Options to Mitigate Fishing Threats to Hector’s and Maui’s Dolphins”. The report investigates social and economic costs of measures proposed in the draft Threat Management Plan for Hector’s and Maui’s Dolphins (TMP). The Ministry invites you to comment on the Aranovus Ltd report. If you are unable to access the report via the Internet, please contact Tracey Steel on 04 819 4585. The report contains a large amount of information that will be useful for the Ministry as we develop final advice for the Minister of Fisheries on the TMP. The report will not, however, be the only source of information the Ministry uses to assess social and economic costs. The Ministry will assess the information in the report in conjunction with other relevant information, including information on socioeconomic impacts that tangata whenua and stakeholders provided during the draft TMP consultation process. The Ministry is interested in your views on the report, including the methodology, analysis, and interpretation. In order for comments to be fully considered in the development of the final advice paper on the TMP, they should be sent to the Ministry not later than 21 January 2008.
