Initial Position Paper - Seabird mitigation measures for trawl and longline vessels

This Initial Position Paper (IPP) provides you with the Ministry of Fisheries’ (MFish) initial position on Seabird Mitigation Measures for trawl and longline vessels for 1 October 2008.

MFish proposes to amend Regulation 58 of the Fisheries (Commercial Fishing) Regulations 2001 to empower the Chief Executive of MFish to promulgate seabird mitigation measures by circular. These measures would replace the mitigation measures that have been notified in the NZ Gazette.

This IPP has been developed for the purpose of consultation as required under the Fisheries Act 1996 (the Act). MFish emphasises the views and recommendations outlined in each paper are preliminary and are provided as a basis for consultation with stakeholders.
