Consultations from 2007

The following consultations have been completed during 2007:

Review of Regulatory and Other Management Controls for 1 April 2008 
Between June and August 2007 the Ministry of Fisheries consulted on a number of regulatory measures proposed for 1 April 2008.


Squid Fishery around Auckland Islands
In November 2007 the Minister of Fisheries approved measures to mitigate the effects that vessels, operating in the SQU6T fishery, have on the Auckland Island sea lion population.


Brown Bullhead Catfish
MFish has developed a Code of Practice to help avoid catfish (of all life-stages) from being unintentionally released into new waterways.


Review of Sustainability Measures
This annual review of fisheries management measures mainly focuses on commitments already made to review certain fishstocks and on urgent issues that present a high level of risk or opportunity.


Review of Regulatory Measures
The Minister of Fisheries has made decisions on some proposals resulting in changes to regulation. These take effect on 1 October 2007.


Coromandel Scallops  
An in-season increase in the Total Allowable Catch of Coromandel Scallops has been approved for the current fishing year.


White Warehou
Proposal to amalgamate the Quota Management Areas (QMAs) White Warehou 5 and 6 under sections 25 and 25A of the Fisheries Act 1996. These areas will be amalgamated.


Eastern Sea Farms
MFish gave the go-ahead to staged development of New Zealand’s largest marine farm. The Ministry has recommended a marine farm permit be granted to Eastern Sea Farms Limited for a 3,800 ha farm in Eastern Bay of Plenty.


Temporary Blue Cod Amateur Fishery Closures
The existing two year closures of the amateur blue cod fisheries in Milford and Doubtful Sounds in Fiordland were extended for a further two years.


Proposed Fisheries Services for 2007/08
Consultation on the proposed fisheries services and research projects proposed for the 2007/08 financial year.
