Review of Sustainability Measures and Other Management Controls for the 2007-08 Fishing Year
During June and July 2007 the Ministry of Fisheries consulted on amendments to the sustainability measures relating to a number of fishstocks. At the same time consultation on the deemed value rates for a large number of stocks was also undertaken.
A final advice paper (see below) was provided to the Minister of Fisheries in early September and the Minister has now made his decisions, which are contained in the attached decision letter.

In summary the Minister has decided to:
- Increase the Total Allowable Catch (TAC) for three stocks (school shark and tarakihi in area 1 (SCH1 and TAR1) and the developing Marlborough dredge oyster fishery (OYS7C))
- Decrease the TAC for three of the orange roughy stocks (ORH1, ORH3B and ORH7B), hoki (HOK1), oreo (OEO1), all North Island freshwater eel stocks and the southern flatfish and red cod stocks (FLA3 and RCO3)
- Set a TAC for the new white warehou stock (WWA5B), which has been created by merging the existing WWA5 and WWA6 stocks
- Amend the deemed value rates for approximately 50 stocks
The Ministry's Final Advice Paper to the Minister is also available for download. The paper was split into four volumes - Volume 1 contains Final Advice Papers and Summaries of Submissions for different species; Volume 2 contains Initial Position Papers and Summaries of Submissions for different species; Volume 3 contains all the submissions on Fishstocks; and Volume 4 covers Deemed Values.
Please note - Some of these files are very large and may take time to download. These documents have been compressed to reduce download time. A CD of the four volumes can be made available if you require a higher resolution version or have trouble downloading these documents. To request this CD, please email comms@fish.govt.nz.
