The following consultations were undertaken during 2006:

Review of Regulatory Controls
Each year the Ministry of Fisheries (MFish) undertakes a process to review the management measures for some of New Zealand’s fisheries. The regulations in this consultation came into effect on 1 April 2007.

Deemed Values
The Joint Working Group on deemed values was formed in 2004 and submitted their nine recommendations to the Minister of Fisheries in May 2005. The Minister subsequently decided that consultation should be undertaken to seek the views of fisheries stakeholders before any decision is taken on the recommendations.


Hector's Dolphins
Proposals to introduce interim measures to mitigate the impacts of fishing on Hector’s dolphins (including Maui’s dolphins).


Northland Scallop Fishery
Proposal to provide an in-season Total Allowable Catch increase for the Northland scallop fishery.


Recreational Regulation Review
Proposals to amend a series of regulations of concern to recreational fishers, including the scallop fishing season, Red Gurnard, Blue Cod and Trumpeter size limits, and issues related to taking bag limits.


Review of Sustainability Measures
Each year the Ministry of Fisheries (MFish) undertakes a process to review the management measures for some of New Zealand’s fisheries.


Seabird Bycatch in Swordfish Fisheries
Proposals for the introduction of measures to manage the incidental catch of seabirds in surface longline fisheries.


Sea Lion Operational Plan 2006-07
Each year the Ministry of Fisheries (MFish) undertakes a process to develop and implement an Operational Plan to manage the interactions between the New Zealand (Hooker’s) sea lion and the southern squid trawl fishery (SQU6T).
