Public consultation on proposed new marine farming zone in the Coromandel
In December 2010, the Government established an Aquaculture Ministerial Advisory Panel to seek public input on a proposal to create a new Coromandel Marine Farming Zone. The panel is being supported by the Ministry of Fisheries Aquaculture Unit.
FAP - Reconsideration of Measures to Manage Fishing-Related Threats to Maui's and Hector's Dolphins
The Ministry of Fisheries (MFish) reviewed the options for mitigating impacts on fishing on Hector’s and Maui’s dolphins in areas that have been referred for reconsideration following the 2009 Court judgment. The Minister has now made his decisions.

In November 2010, the Ministry of Fisheries consulted on a proposal to increase the catch limit for southern bluefin tuna (STN 1) within the current (2010-11) fishing year. The Minister has now made his decisions.

The National Fisheries Plan for Highly Migratory Species (HMS) has been approved by the Minister of Fisheries under section 11A of the Fisheries Act.
Measures to Support Reopening the Marlborough Sounds Amateur Blue Cod Fishery
In August 2010, the Ministry of Fisheries consulted on a draft management plan developed by the Blue Cod Management Group and the MFish Initial Position Paper (IPP) describing, and providing an initial appraisal of, the management measures proposals. The Minister has now made his decisions on the management of the recreational blue cod fishery.
Consultation on the Draft Research Standard for New Zealand Fisheries Science Information
In February 2010 the Ministry of Fisheries completed a collaborative research services strategy review. One of the recommendations of that review was that the Ministry develop standards for the provision of research used in fisheries management.
FAP and Ministers' Decision Letters - Review of Regulatory and Other Management Controls for 16 December 2010
In September 2010 a Final Advice Paper was provided to the Minister of Fisheries and the Minister of Conservation, who was required to make a decision relating to the protection of basking shark. Both Ministers have now made their decisions. The Minister of Fisheries has also made his final decisions on the amendments to fisheries regulations.
Review of Kahawai Stocks (KAH1, 2, 3, 4, 8 and 10)
In June 2010, the Ministry of Fisheries consulted on proposals to review the TACs, allowances, TACCs, and other management controls for all kahawai stocks to take effect from 1 October 2010. The Minister has now made his decisions, based on the final advice paper and after considering submissions.
Review of Sustainability Measures and Other Management Controls for 1 October 2010
The Ministry of Fisheries has, as part of its annual review of fisheries, provided advice to the Minister on sustainability measures and other management controls for the 1 October 2010/11 fishing year. The Minister has now made decisions on these matters. Decisions come into force on 1 October 2010.

Between February and March 2010 the Ministry of Fisheries consulted on a number of regulatory measures proposed for 1 October 2010. A Final Advice Paper was provided to the Minister of Fisheries in June, and the Minister has now made his decisions.

The Minister of Fisheries and Aquaculture invited submissions on the draft National Fisheries Plan for Deepwater and Middle-Depth Fisheries (The National Deepwater Plan).
Wakatu Incorporation, Tasman Bay - Final Decision Paper
In January 2010, the Ministry of Fisheries consulted on an initial position paper outlining the Ministry’s views of an application from Wakatu Incorporation for a 770-hectare marine farm located approximately 3 nautical miles west of the southern tip of D’Urville Island in north-eastern Tasman Bay at the top of the South Island.

The Ministry of Fisheries consulted on the NRLMG’s initial advice on the Minister’s behalf between 17 December 2009 and 5 February 2010. The NRLMG provided the Minister with Final Advice in mid-February 2010 for consideration.

Between 25 November 2009 and 15 January 2010 the Ministry of Fisheries (MFish) consulted on a proposal to bring Patagonian toothfish within New Zealand’s EEZ into the QMS on 1 October 2010.
