MEASURES TO SUPPORT REOPENING THE MARLBOROUGH SOUNDS AMATEUR BLUE COD FISHERY

In August 2010, the Ministry of Fisheries consulted on a draft management plan developed by the Blue Cod Management Group and the MFish Initial Position Paper (IPP) describing, and providing an initial appraisal of, the management measures proposals.

The Minister has now made his decisions on the management of the recreational blue cod fishery, based on the final advice paper (available for download below) and after considering submissions.

The Minister has decided to re-open the blue cod fishery on 1st April 2011, with a series of management measures in place.

His decisions are outlined in the press release. The reasons for the Minister’s decisions are outlined in his decision letter below.
