Between 25 November 2009 and 15 January 2010 the Ministry of Fisheries (MFish) consulted on a proposal to bring Patagonian toothfish within New Zealand’s EEZ into the QMS on 1 October 2010. A Final Advice Paper (FAP) was provided to the Minister of Fisheries in February 2010 and the Minister has now made his decisions, which are contain in the attached decision letter. To create a single quota management area for Patagonian toothfish encompassing all New Zealand fisheries waters iii. That Patagonian toothfish will be subject to the 1 October fishing year; and iv. Between February and March 2010 consultation was undertaken on consequential regulatory measures necessary to support the introduction of toothfish into the QMS.
