The following consultations have been completed during 2009:

Aquaculture – Consultation on the report of the Technical Advisory Group (TAG)
The Minister of Fisheries released the TAG report for consultation in November 2009 seeking submissions on the recommendations. Over 200 submissions were received, and the key themes were summarised.


Squid fishery around the Auckland Islands (SQU6T): Final Advice Paper
The Minister of Fisheries has recently approved measures to mitigate the effects that vessels, operating in the SQU6T fishery, have on the Auckland Islands sea lion population. These measures will be implemented through the 2009-10 SQU6T Operational Plan.


Final Decision on the Introduction of Bladder Kelp Seaweed in Fisheries Management Areas 3 and 4 into the QMS
The Minister of Fisheries has decided to introduce bladder kelp (Macrocystis pyrifera) in its attached state in Fisheries Management Areas (FMAs) 3 and 4 into the Quota Management System (QMS) on 1 October 2010.


Final Aquaculture Decision for Wilson Bay Interim Aquaculture Management Areas
The Ministry of Fisheries has made a final aquaculture decision to approve (make a determination for) the 1,783 hectare Wilson Bay Interim Aquaculture Management Areas (Interim AMAs) in the Firth of Thames.


Review of Sustainability Measures and Other Management Controls for 1 October 2009
The Ministry of Fisheries has, as part of its normal review of the state of fisheries, provided advice to the Minister on sustainability measures and catch limits for the 2009/10 fishing year. The Minister has now made decisions on these matters. Decisions come into force on 1 October 2009


Coromandel Scallops – In-Season TAC review for the 2009-10 scallop fishing year
In July 2009, the Ministry of Fisheries (MFish) consulted on proposals for the in-season review of the total allowable catch (TAC) for Coromandel Scallops (SCACS) and associated changes to annual catch entitlements (ACE) and non-commercial catch allowances.


Review of Regulatory and Other Management Controls for 1 October 2009
Review of Regulatory Measures and other Management Controls for 1 October 2009. A Final Advice Paper was provided to the Minister of Fisheries in April 2009, and the Minister has now made his decisions, which are contained in the attached decision letter.


Flatfish (FLA 3) – Proposed In-Season TAC Increase for the 2008-09 Fishing Year
In June 2009, the Ministry of Fisheries (MFish) consulted on a proposal for an in-season increase in the total allowable catch (TAC) for Flatfish 3 (FLA 3) and an associated increase in annual catch entitlement (ACE).


Special Permit for Otago Harbour Cockles
The Ministry of Fisheries has approved a special permit for the Dunedin-based fishing company, Southern Clams Ltd, to carry out research trials on commercial cockle fishing in Otago Harbour.


Milford & Doubtful Sounds - proposal to extend the blue cod amateur fishery closures
Review of the regulatory measures to extend the blue cod amateur fishery closures for Milford and Doubtful Sounds from 30 June 2009. A Final Advice Paper was provided to the Minister of Fisheries in March 2009, and the Minister has now made his decisions, which are contained in the attached decision letter.

Between January and February 2009 the Ministry of Fisheries (MFish) consulted on sustainability measures for Southern Blue Whiting 6B (SBW 6B) for 1 April 2009.

Between December 2008 and February 2009 the Ministry of Fisheries (MFish) consulted on deemed values for selected stocks for 1 April 2009.


Introduction of redbait into the QMS on 1 October 2009
Between 30 January and 20 February 2009 the Ministry of Fisheries (MFish) consulted on a proposal to bring redbait stocks into the QMS on 1 October 2009


Review of Sustainability Measures for Red Rock Lobster Fisheries for 1 April 2009
In December 2008, the National Rock Lobster Management Group (NRLMG) provided the Minister of Fisheries with initial advice on sustainability measures for rock lobster fisheries for the 2009-10 fishing year, beginning 1 April 2009:
