Final Aquaculture Decision for Wilson Bay Interim Aquaculture Management Areas
The Ministry of Fisheries has made a final aquaculture decision to approve (make a determination for) the 1,783 hectare Wilson Bay Interim Aquaculture Management Areas (Interim AMAs) in the Firth of Thames. Of this area, 520 ha is available for shellfish farming, with the remainder being access ways between the marine farming blocks.
When making an aquaculture decision, the Ministry is required to consider the effects of the proposed aquaculture activities on fishing and on the sustainability of fisheries resources. In this case, the Ministry was satisfied the proposed activities will not have an undue adverse effect on fishing or on the sustainability of fisheries resources.
