2012 Review of sustainability measures and management controls for inshore fish stocks

The Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) seeks feedback from stakeholders and tangata whenua on proposed changes to the sustainability measures and management controls for the following inshore fish stocks:

  • Bluenose (BNS 1, 2, 3, 7, 8): a proposal to decrease the total allowable catch, and total allowable commercial catch
  • Elephant Fish (ELE 5): a proposal to increase the total allowable catch, allowances and total allowable commercial catch
  • Dark Ghost Shark (GSH 2, 8): a proposal to increase the total allowable catch, allowances and total allowable commercial catch
  • Red Gurnard (GUR 3, 7): a proposal to increase the total allowable catch, allowances and total allowable commercial catch
  • John Dory (JDO 7): a proposal to increase the total allowable catch, allowances and total allowable commercial catch
  • Porae (POR 2): a proposal to increase the total allowable catch, allowances and total allowable commercial catch
  • School Shark (SCH): a proposal to include school shark on the Sixth Schedule of the Fisheries Act 1996

In addition, MPI is reviewing deemed value rates for the following species:

  • Dark Ghost Shark (GSH 1, 2, 3, 7, 8, 9)
  • Blue Moki (MOK 1, 3, 4, 5)
  • Porae (POR 1, 2, 3)
  • Snapper (SNA 1, 2, 3, 7, 8)
  • Trumpeter (TRU 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9).

In August 2012, MPI will compile final advice and recommendations on the proposal to the Minister for Primary Industries. A copy of the FAP and the Minister’s letter setting out his final decisions will be posted on the MPI website as soon as these become available
